Sewing Along Here

Well, after owning this fabric, Maison de Noel by 3 Sisters for Moda, for several years I have cut into it and have now begun sewing it. I'm making the Imagine pattern from Carrie Nelson's fabulous book, Schnibbles Times 2. This is the big quilt and I'll make the smaller version next. I know I had a pattern in mind when I bought this fabric but for some reason I just couldn't cut the fabric up. I like this pattern with this fabric because I can still see the big swatches of this wonderful fabric and the wonderful colors and patterns. This pattern has fantastic directions. If you are going to make it, follow Carrie's pressing and cutting directions-it makes a difference. I have since sewn half of the rows together and they go together like butta! Nice crisp points and a very pleasing pattern. After some of the more complictaed quilts I have done recently like the snowball quilt, I needed something easier and this fits the bill. I am really enjoying the process making this quilt and that's what it should be all about.

  2. I love Carrie's patterns and I think this is going to be beautiful.
I so understand what you say about hovering parents. I remember my son's first year at UNH, when the didn't allow parents to go in while the kids registered for their classes. I thought it was brilliant and for me it set the stage for the remainder of his college years. Now he's getting ready for grad school and he's handling it all by himself - an occasional question to me, but more for clarification or to just have my opinion (knowing I don't mind if he ignores my opinion), but I think it started there. UNH really set high standards in my book and when I hear other parents complain about dealing with the college their kid is going to, I know I was very lucky. The very few times I needed to speak to someone, I got clear, concise information and dealt with amazingly pleasant people. Hope your summer is pleasant and full of sewing ... before the new year begins.

  8. Boy am I keen on this one. I'm keen on you being on vacation and enjoying it as well. Just reading and watching is a real pleasure my friend. Thanks for reinforcing the following of directions and pressing. Good to do. I don't have the book but I made a mental note. :) And while I just realized payday isn't until next week after paying bills yesterday, so we wonder about my memory, I can remember info like you shared here about Carrie's patterns in this book.

I pray that risen from the dead,
In glory I will stand,
A crown perhaps upon my head,
And a needle in my hand.
