Now You See It, Now You Don't

Now you see it,

Now you don't!

As you can see our construction project has started. We are having a two car garage built with a family room above. That white door you see is the door to the kitchen which will become double french doors opening to a staircase that will go up 6 steps to a big open family room. All the rooms in my house are small so I am excited to have a large room where everyone can gather. My husband is anxious to not have to scrape ice and frost ever again in the morning.

I am looking forward to filling the room with furniture and accessories, none of them new! I have already found a large dining table, a craftsman style desk that someone cut down that I plan on using to put a tv on, and a side table. I know I can furnish and decorate with thrifty finds and I am challenging myself to do that. Now if only the cats would stop scratching at that kitchen door to go into the garage that isn't there anymore!

  1. Wow! What a nice addition you will be adding! I'm looking forward to picture updates all along the way. (funny that the cat wants to "fall out" the door)

  2. You are really going to enjoy that addition! It will be fun to shop for the furnishings, too. So much more fun to shop thrift than new! Watch those cats!

  3. What a wonderful addition this will be! I know you are excited!
So much fun getting new things and watching it all come together! I look forward to seeing the final project!

  4. Wow Chris, you will have a wonderful new space to decorate and play in - and know hubby will love his own garage, especially in Winter. The 12 years I lived in NH and MA the Winters were awful - I spent so much time shovelling snow.............and that was just to locate the kids' boots when they played outside!!!
Keep us posted with pics - hope all goes well.

  5. I think new construction can be so exciting with the anticipation and the planning. A new family room sounds wonderful. Good for you!

  6. What a joy to be out shopping for things to fill your new room. I can't imagine how excited you must already be for the work to be complete *s*

  7. Wow! The before and after pics are like a vanishing act! Very cool. How exciting to embark on such a terrific improvement!

  8. Oh, my- what a difference a day (or two) makes; you are right- it's going to be fun to decorate a brand new space.
BTW, the Maine "cottage" is just gorgeous- you are a fortunate family.

  9. How exciting!

I loved the "now you see it, now you don't".

I pray that risen from the dead,
In glory I will stand,
A crown perhaps upon my head,
And a needle in my hand.
