Baby C. Here!

Hi Everyone, Baby C. here!
I'm at my Gram's house! At the college she works at she has a new job this year and her very nice boss lets her work four days a week instead of five. That means I get to come stay at her house every Friday! Today it was really nice outside so we got to do one of my most favorite things in the world-go for a walk! So I thought I could show you my Gram and Gramp's neighborhood. My Gram and Gramp's house is the last house on the street so it's in a nice place to play.
We walked all the way to the dentist's office up the street so my Gram could pay the bill. She told me that she has spent thousands of dollars here, whatever those are, on my Daddy's and Auntie's teeth.
We went all the way to the top of the street. My Gram lives way down there.
While were walking a pretty leave fell on my stroller. Gram thinks it came from her neighbor's tree that is really pretty red and orange right now. They have a swing set in their yard. I hope my Gram and Gramps get one for me.
Then we were back at Gram's house.

They built a big room over their new garage just for me! I already have toys and my own table in there. I played with Gram in there almost all day today because I didn't want to take any naps. My Gramps is putting siding on it now but my Gram doesn't think he will ever be done. She is sick of seeing the siding with the word "tyvek" on it. Then my Mommy, Daddy, Gramps, Auntie and Uncle came over for dinner that my Daddy cooked but they wouldn't let me try it. It looked good. Bye for now. I hope you liked seeing my Gram and Gramp's neighborhood. See you next Friday.

Being a Grandmother is Wonderful!

I am still basking in the wonder of being a Grandmother and my grandson who has captured my heart. All my friends told me what it would be like but I didn't grasp what it would be like until it actually happenned. It seems like just yesterday that my son was that age and he is almost 29 now! I wish I could see him everyday but I'll have to be content with seeing him every week at least.

I didn't plan on going to see them this weekend to let them get settled and bond in their home with each other. But I got a phone call Saturday morning suggesting that I visit. Seems like the baby did not give them a good night's rest and they were overwhelmed and tired and needed some motherly advice. So I went to their house for the morning and early afternoon and her mother and father showed up later to cook them supper. I think I helped. I do remember that feeling, as if someone had plucked me from my home and put me in the middle of China and I didn't speak the language and somehow I had to communicate with this little person who didn't understand me! It's quite a shock at first. But I know they'll be fine-they just have to go through this new parent's hazing ritual.

I was shaken awake this morning at 3:30 by another tree coming down and knocking out power in this tremendous storm we are having in the Northeast and I had trouble getting back to sleep. So as tired as I will be today I know there are two new parents that are much more tired than I am. But enough already with this weather! It seems we are to skip Spring altogether this year. It was snowing yesterday but at least it changed to rain. I think my feet are starting to get webbed!

I'm a Grandmother!

Well, finally yesterday, 8 days overdue my first grandchild arrived! We have a grandson who entered the world yesterday afternoon at a whopping 10 pounds 5 ounces. Of course he is the most beautiful baby in the world-no really he is. My son and daughter in law prefer not to have his picture out here so I am abiding by their wishes and showing you the beautiful Willow Tree grandmother figurine that my dear DIL gave both me and her mother at her baby shower. Isn't she the best? The baby and his parents are doing fine and he is a very calm baby, just like my son was so hopefully he will continue to be this way. My son was very relaxed and mellow as a baby and was a great sleeper so we'll see how his son does. In the meantime I am just soaking in all the wonderfull baby smells and touching his soft, soft skin. The best medicine ever created.

We're on Grandchild Watch

My son and daughter-in-law are going to be having their first child and my first grandchild very soon. Their due date is this week so we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our grandson or grandaughter-they did not want to know ahead of time. I can hardly stand the wait!

This sweet little egg with the bunny on it is actually quite old-like me-not really-I'm a young 53! This was given to my Mom by my Dad filled with flowers when I was born. It always amazes me that she held onto it all these years and it never got broken in the process. I always put it out at Easter and I love it. I also happen to have a similar container that my Mom sent to me in the hospital in Colorado when I had my son almost 29 years ago. So I have it all ready to go to the florist, as soon as we get the baby news, to be filled with flowers and passed on to my daughter-in-law. I hope I am around years from now to see it passed along one more time to another generation.

I Think I'm Baby Quilted Out!

Since my DIL's baby shower has now passed I can post a picture of the quilt I made for the wee one on it's way. She has decorated the nursery in a Classic Pooh theme so that is what I put in the quilt. Who knew there was more than one kind of Winnie the Pooh but evidently there is!

My Son did an outstanding job fixing up the baby's room with beadboard wainscotting and a chair rail. We used to call the room the "Spongebob Squarepants" room because of the bright yellow and turquoise color it used to be. But it is now soothing colors of sage green and soft blue. Very pretty.

I think I am officially tired of making baby quilts. Although I just found out my cousin's wife is expecting twins so here I go again!

Bunnies for a Baby

I made this bunny quilt a while ago but never got the binding on it but it is done now so I think I am going to hang it in the room that my first grandchild will use when he/she visits. Only six more weeks until the due date! I originally did it to practice needle turn applique which I ended up liking so I know there will be more applique quilts in my future.

My friends are bewildered as to why I am decorating a nursery for a baby that won't be in the room much. When I had my son my husband was in the Air Force and we lived in base housing. Anyone who's ever lived in military housing knows that the walls were white and you were not allowed to paint them or do much in the way of decorating. So for his first year of life he lived in a white box. Then we moved to NH and bought our first house. The baby's room there had this horrible orange and yellow wallpaper that literally took us a year to take down. I think in reality it was contact paper so once we got it off there was a lot of repair work to be done. By then I was pregnant again so many things took a back seat to decorating. So I now have the time and the enthusiasm to decorate a nursery so I am! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
