My Sewing Room

I am lucky enough to have a sewing room. Although it always had a sewing machine in it, it was at different times a play room for the kids, a craft room (mostly for my very crafty daughter), a storage room for kids home from college in the summers and now my sewing room. The kids are married and in their own homes and this is my room! This is the only room in the house we have never done anything to and we have lived here for almost 27 years. Here's what it looked like a couple of weekends ago.
It's not usually this messy but I had emptied everything out of the closet.

This closet had one tiny door but really, it's a good sized closet. For 27 years I have wanted better access to this closet and finally hubby got around to opening it up.

He added shelves and opened it up so I can get to my supplies without having to empty the closet everytime. Sweet! I have had a serious stash manicure in the past year by using a lot of the stash and sorting and getting rid of a lot, which I did in November. All the fabric I have left is what is in those two white towers which are working perfectly for me. I love them.

I am using some new storage items, mostly bought at Home Goods and some vintage, like the cute tin above.

I love being able to see it all.

The aqua cabinet used to be my Dad's tool chest. It was really dirty when I got it but I cleaned it up and gave it a coat of paint. Great storage! So since these pictures were taken we have painted the walls, and installed a new floor. Still have some trim to paint and hopefully I'll be able to sew by this weekend. Tomorrow I have off from work since there's a big snowstorm coming. The world must be ending because they never close the college where I work but they have already decided to close so I am looking forward to the snow day. Perhaps I'll get this room back in shape. I love snow days.

Enjoy your snow day at home. I hope we get to see how the room looks when you have moved into the rest of it. New paint and flooring sounds like a wonderful beginning to happy sewing.

  7. You managed to take a picture of the sewing room WITHOUT the horrible wallpaper in it. I'm sure you have a picture of a quilt on the wall with it so be sure to show that at some point.

    Next up...my basement...or my closet...

  9. I love what you've done with your closet! I need to clean out all the scrapbooking stuff (why oh why did I spend mega $$$$'s on that!) in my craft room since I no longer scrapbook to make room for quilting stuff.

Every time I hear you talk about the college where you work, I wonder where you live. I also live in NH and work at UNH. Are you nearby?

Hope you're enjoying the snow day...I sure am!

  13. Can your hubby come to Kansas and make shelves in my sewing room closet???!!! I would feed him my fabulous bierocks & cookies! I have never had a husband and want one like yours. Please can I borrow him!:)

  14. I have a closet in my sewing room but it looks nothing like yours right now. Can I ask, where did you get those tall plastic drawer bins? Love those. All I've ever found are the 2 or 3 drawer ones and they're really wobbly. These look great!

  17. It's wonderful! I love that you still have you Dad's old tool chest. Doing the fabric-purge is hard but do you feel liberated? Tremendously unburdened? I thought about measuring it when I did that but I knew ignorance would be blissfully better.

I look forward to the finished room - and to the wonderful things you'll make on your snow days.

In glory I will stand,
A crown perhaps upon my head,
And a needle in my hand.
