A Special Quilt

Since I won't be seeing my grandson on Christmas I was able to give him a little quilt I made him recently as a Christmas gift. He seemed delighted by the quilt based on the Very Hungry Caterpiller book and this was a lot of fun for me to make.

The three big images came as one panel and it was my plan to just plop that panel in the middle but when I got it in the mail, having ordered it on line, I discovered that the panel was printed cock-eyed so I had to cut it up and make it up as I went along.
But I'm pleased with the way it came out. I surrounded the middle with a bunch of bright fabrics from my stash and my quilter did a fun, colorful quilting design.
So he and his parents get to visit his other grandparents on Christmas who are equally delighted by him as my husband and I are. Christmas is a lot more fun with a little one around.
But when you down to the basics, why do we even need presents when there's so much cool paper and empty boxes to play with?

  1. What a wonderful quilt for a little one. I can imagine how excited he must have been when he recognized the characters from Eric Carle's book. I really like the way you had this quilted ~ fun and durable.

  2. It's a great quilt from a fantastic story so I'm certain it will become a treasured gift. Yes the packaging is always a favourite 'toy'

  3. Remember the wrapped box in a wrapped box in a wrapped box in a wrapped box? Our boys loved tearing off the paper and generally making a mess. . .

  4. This is a beautiful quilt Chris! I love the hungry caterpiller theme.
So true - the boxes and wrap are always as much or more fun to play with :-)
Wishing you a Blessed and Very Merry Christmas.

  5. What a little sweetie . . . . he's going to love that quilt for a long, long time *s8

  6. What a sweetie your GS is! Love that quilt. My now 40 year old kids loved that book, & so does my grandson!

  7. Hi Chris, I love how you made the Hungry Caterpillar quilt.I am sure your grandson will have it for along time. Regards Lyn

  8. Your blog looks so pretty decorated for Christmas!
I'm sure your grandson will love his new quilt.
Best wishes to you for a merry Christmas!

  9. What a cute quilt for your grandson, Chris. I am sure he will treasure it for years to come. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and I trust the New Year will be just wonderful for you and your family. Hugs!

  10. Oh I love this quilt! You did a great job and I love the quilting, too. That really set the whole thing off. Well.. that and the wrapping paper and boxes! :)

I pray that risen from the dead,
In glory I will stand,
A crown perhaps upon my head,
And a needle in my hand.
