Encased in Ice
If you've watched the news at all you'll know that New England, particularly New Hampshire where I live, has been hit hard by an ice storm. Everything is coated with ice and when that happens trees come down and power goes out. There are over 400,000 homes without electricity in NH right now and it is very cold today.
But believe it or not my house never lost power. I got a day off from work and I was able to bake cookies and wrap presents and sew binding on a little quilt for someone special.
An ice storm is much more dangerous that a snow storm. We have had a little snow this year but not much. I hope this storm isn't a glimps into our future winter weather this year.
The bird feeder was encased too. I don't recall seeing any birds yesterday-they must have hunkered down too. That's my neighbor's house in the back ground.
She had part of a tree come down in her front yard. My husband got out there with his chain saw and took care of it for her. Part of it was him being neighborly and part of it was him wanting to run the chain saw. It's a man thing, ya know. So stay warm and if you find yourself encase with ice, make cookies-if you have power that is.
Oh my! That's serious stuff. Amazing, isn't it? Thanks for sharing this photos.
ReplyDeletewe had an ice storm a few years ago, very scary! great pictures
ReplyDeleteIce storms are very dangerous indeed, however some of the best photos seem to be taken during these times. Love your photos.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of your icy garden! Stay safe and warm Chris!
ReplyDeleteI loved the photo of your sweet cat in the last post & how you named your blog :-)
I was wondering how you made out in the storm - it's been all the talk on the news . . . . even here. Even though the ice is dangerous, it sure makes some pretty pictures.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your okay....I hate those dang storms....I've been in too many and lost to many trees. They are the worse. Now we don't even have a fire place to keep warm....sounds like you got everyting done.....good for you....
ReplyDeleteWe were supposed to get ice overnight but it went north of us (most of it anyway). I grew up in MI and lived in northern IN for years so I know the power of an ice storm. Beautiful but potentially so dangerous. Thanks for the marvelous photos!!
ReplyDeleteBrrrrrrrrrr...that looks so cold. Glad you kept your power, but oh those poor people without.
ReplyDeleteWe heard about the storm on our news, it sounded dreadful. Glad that you didn't lose power. There's some icing going on now in our neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of the dangerous ice. I showed photos of the ice around my home in Dover on my home blog:

We are getting major snow today.. Yippeeee...as long as I make it home from work what a perfect day to quilt. Keep warm with your fur kids and quilts
You'll really have had terrible weather. We have been lucky in OK so far this year, no ice to speak of. That stuff is not fun at all. Hopefully you have kept your power, but since you haven't posted, I kind of doubt it. Hope all are well.
