Some Blog Candy I Won!

I was lucky enough to win a blog giveaway by Heather Mulder Peterson and my package arrived today. It's her new line of fabric called Rebel Roses and I received a layer cake of the whole line from her.

I love large prints so I really love these big rose prints-the rebel roses I'm guessing! The combination of colors and prints are wonderful. Now what shall I make? I have a couple of Heather's books and a couple of her Little Charmers patterns so I'll play with the fabric for a while and make something soon.
As soon as I finish grandson Cater's quilts which are still on the design wall. Work gets in the way but it's Spring break next week so I have some time off so I'll be in the sewing room if you're looking for me.

A Guest Blogger

Hi-It's Carter here. Since it's Friday I am at my Nya Nya and Ga's house so here's what's going on. It's been snowing a lot here this winter. I love to play outside and no matter how cold it is I cry when Nya Nya and Ga make me go inside.

We had snow here in NH the past two days and is makes the trees look really pretty. Nya Nya and Ga's street looks really pretty today.
This is their front yard. A lot of the snow melted before this new snow. Before, the snow piles were really high over my head. Now they are only about 6 feet tall. Nya Nya gets really jealous when she sees the pictures of everybody's yard with their flowers blooming already.
I helped Ga shovel the neighbor's driveway.
Then it was time to come inside which I didn't like but I got to do some crayon work so that was fun. I ate lunch too which was good. I like to eat anything. So I hope you enjoyed my day so far. I get to take a nap now. (Nya Nya takes one too sometime!) See ya!
Love, Carter

Scrap Quilting

I talked about my next project in my last post along with that wrinkled pile of scrap fabric that was going to be 2 twin sized quilts for my grandson's bunk beds he'll be moving into sometime soon. Well, I have ironed and cut a lot of fabric and somewhat tamed the pile. After making that last quilt which involved a lot of piecing I wanted something easier and here it is. Just 2 blocks-a nine patch and an hour glass. I think this quilt lends itself to many, many scraps which I just happen to have!

In the process of cutting and sewing I got to revisit some of my older fabrics including this cute bumblebee fabric. I know it's a Moda fabric but I don't remember where or when I got it. I've got a few Prairie Paisley's, some Alex Anderson prints, and many orphans from past projects. While I enjoyed my last project, which was a kit, I prefer picking out my own fabrics so this is fun for me. So back to the sewing room. I'll surface eventually.

She is Done

My quilt of the last post is done, except for sewing the binding to the back, so it's only done in my head I guess! Please excuse the horrible floor under the quilt. That's in my sewing studio and we have a wood floor that's going to go down there but heck knows when that will occcur.

After I finished the top I got it right to my quilter who did a fantastic job as usual.
I have this quilting pattern on a couple of other quilts and I love it. It's a wheat pattern and it's just so curvy and happy. This quilt with all it's straight lines needed some curves.
I know why everyone buys jelly rolls and layer cakes because other wise they'd have to deal with the mess in the picture above. Those are some fabrics I pulled for a couple of scrappy quilts for my grandson's bunk beds he'll be in at some point. I need a better organization system! But I love scrappy quilts and that mess up there will become quilts pictures below.
This is a Quilts and More magazine I've had for a while. Just getting from the pile of cloth to the quilt is a little more work with a messy stash but I'll get there eventually.

Logs and Stars

I've been plodding along on this Country Living quilt kit. The many red stars seemed to give me fits for a while.

Then these courthouse step log cabin blocks seemed to take forever. Probably because those logs are one inch wide! I still need to join them together and attach them to the quilt. I do really like the checkerboards. They just seem to set all the other parts off.
The last component is another star block for the corners, which is waiting it's turn here, and then it's done-Yay! They advertise this kit as for an advanced beginner but I think that's stretching it a bit. This kit had a lot of parts and any seam that's a little less than perfect could really snowball and throw this quilt way off. After this it's quilts for my grandson's new beds in his new room as his baby sister or brother comes along this summer and takes over the crib. What fun that should be. Thinking about summer-it's all that's keeping me going during this horrible winter.
