Crock Covers

It's amazing how collections start. When we tore down our old garage last spring to build the new one, we had to clean out everything from the old one. I found it cathartic to get rid of alot of junk and to find some old treasures I had forgotten about. I seem to have collected several crock covers so I decided to display them in my basket that is always on my front porch.
The one on the left I bought at a yard sale a while back, the one in the front is the cover to a bean pot that I bought in Maine that I use to plant geraniums in, and the one on the right came from my Mom's house. I even had another one on display in my summer kitchen.
And now wherever I go I see lids. My daughter and I were on an antiquing outing a few weeks ago and I found these ones for $5.
And here's the fourth one of that set hanging out in my bathroom on my green shelf that is always changing.
And since we're on a Halloween theme here, Baby C wishes you all a Happy Halloween!

The Red Sox Will Win the World Series

See this guy? He's not a relative or anything but one of the owner's of Jordan's Furniture, a large furniture chain in our parts. Because of him and my sister I know the Red Sox are going to win the world series. Here's why....

Jordan's Furniture this past spring had a promotion going on that if you bought furniture between March (I don't remember the beginning date) and April 16th, if the Red Sox won the world series, Jordan's Furniture would reimburse in full every single person who purchased furniture from them. The April 16th date is important because my sister bought $10,000 worth of furniture from them on April 17th. For some reason she was totally unaware of the promotion. Since then, everyone she knows has reminded her of it so she now knows about this promotion. She doesn't want to hear about it anymore.

So Go Sox!!

Foggy

Foggy. It's how we've been weather wise and spirit wise here this week. This is my grown daughter pushing Baby C for a walk yesterday on a foggy but warm fall day. She had an accident in her home last Sunday that involved fainting and hitting hard surfaces with her face and teeth in her bathroom. She had surgery on Monday and has had TLC from her husband, her Dad , myself and Baby C this week. Baby C and I went to pick her up at her home and bring her to our home for the day and we decided to take in the fall scenery despite the fog.
This young woman is as tough as nails because I would be a basket case if I had to go through the hurdles she has had this past year and a half. Besides this week's trauma she was also diagnosed with MS and has handled the whole thing with courage and grace beyond her years. She is also a first grade teacher which in my book is about the hardest job on earth. There's our cul-de-sac that seems to get every color of tree on display.
The colors are starting to peak in our part of NH and they are so beautiful. We have had a very warm fall so the colors seem a little late this year.
And here we are home again just in time for some rain to start falling. Gramps is working hard on getting the siding on the house because despite it being in the 70's today, it could be snowing tomorrow. That's the way the weather works in New England!
Then it's time for some comfort with a binky and a blankie. I don't know if it's her who really needs the comfort of it's me who really needs to give the comfort. A little of both I think.

Fall Table Topper

Thanks for all the love for Pumpkin Boy. We finally feel like fall up here in the great north. I was beginning to wonder with all those days in the 80's but it is gorgeous here now and we'll be complaining about snow before you know it.

I have managed to make a fall table topper which now sits on the table in our new great room. I got the pattern from Keepsake.
I managed to use all fabrics from my stash which I am trying to use and get down to a reasonable amount which so hard to do with so many great fabrics out there. My favorite is the pumpkin one in the middle which is a Thimbleberries fabric I have had for quite a while.
It sure was a peaceful setting this Sunday morning with the sun streaming in on the table. Hope your fall is as pretty as ours is in NH.

The Cutest Pumpkin in NH

Since it is Fall here, although it was 86 degrees on Saturday-what's up with that, I wanted to post a picture of the cutest pumpkin in NH. I borrowed (stole) this picture from my son's blog.
Being a grandmother is the best!

Block of the Month

Remember way back in January when I started this and then block 1? I haven't been good about posting pictures, probably because I fell behind on this project at one point, but except for borders it is together.
The colors are outside of my comfort zone but I do like the way it looks all together now.
You probably can't see the fabric too well here but some of it has printed words like "home", "celebration", "stability", "love" and "family". So I decided to do something a little better with this quilt than just throw it on one of my beds. My husband is retiring from 33 years of military service this coming March, some of that time in the Air Force and much of that time with the NH National Guard. So in honor of his service I am going to donate it to the NH National Guard Family Program to raffle off to raise money for the many things they do for the families of deployed soldiers. Many families have had a rough time these past years and the Family Program does wonderful things to help them so I hope it raises some money for them. And what's better than a quilt to offer some comfort in these troubled times for our military families.
